Default Performing a photo makeover

Hi, I am really new to this web and also in photoshop, but I have been learning by using tutorials and reading a book and also using photoshop help. Some days ago I discovered this site and this tutorial "Performing a Photo Makeover", but sadly I was not able to follow it because there are , I think, so many steps missing; I understand that, it is because my little knowledgtment of photoshop, but I would really like to learn how to do it, Could somebody tell me about the missing steps? This tutorial is in Intermediate user. I would really apreciate if somebody help me out! Thanks.

Hi Taurog and welcome to the forums!

This tutorial is aimed at the intermediate PS user and as such, assumes that you are familiar with photoshop somewhat. The Keeper specifically notes in the introduction to the intermediate section, that new photoshoppers may have a hard time follwowing these tutorials.

Photo touch up is quite an advanced technique(s) using PS, and one of the more complex things you can attempt as a beginner. I read through the tutorial and I dont see any steps missed out, but rather, the tutorial assumes you know how to do certain things without going into details (making selections suing quick mask etc).

Now dont give in just yet. I personally would slow your self down a tad, and try doing some beginners tutorials to get familiar with some of the fundemental PS commands/techniques and then building upon what you have learnt, move on to some ore advanced tutorials.

I can still try and help if you can be specific at which step in the tutorial you do not understand. I cant explain anything without more details at which step your stuck on!

let us know and happy photoshopping!

One thing this tutorial does not explain in depth--and it is a concept you MUST grasp if you are to ever use photoshop at an intermediate level--is masks. So you have two layers on top of one another. Say you want only certain parts to show on the top layer, how do you cut them out so that the bottom layer can show through? The answer is a mask. This is basically a black and white representation of parts that you want to hide in the current layer. To add a layer mask, higlight the layer you want to put the mask on(this will be the layer that you want to cover things up on). Hit the square with the circle in it, which is an icon which will be on the bottom of your layers pallette.(go to Window-->Layers if youre unsure). Then when it is active start drawing with a black brush(same as the normal paintbrush) and you will see your layer dissappear! Use white to make it reappear...if this is confusing, refer to the book you bought or one of the many in-depth tutorials on the web about it! Have fun!

Greetings taurog, welcome to the community. We hope you enjoy your stay. [righton]

You're correct about that tutorial being geard for intermediate users. Which is exactly why you, as a new user, are perceiving it as missing steps.

BUT... that doesn't necessarily mean you have to give up trying to do the tutorial. Before any specific help/guidance can be given though, it would be helpful to know what you've done thus far, and where exactly you start to have trouble? i.e. what is it you think is missing from the steps?

Let us know that and we'll begin the learning process.
