pretty good for first , just do something with text in news , It's unread. Keep it up

Its a decent layout. Just some faults:

If you were to code it, loading times would be very slow, because of the huge image in the bg. Though you might be able to code it in flash.
The text in the buttons is hard to see. Add a black stroke around the text.
And finally, join the white rectangles together (around welcome)
