Default adding a glossy paint to a "flat color"

Hey guys I posted a looong time ago about painting cars with photoshop and I am glad to say that I have become very efficient(sp) with it. But I cant figure out how to get ANY shinniness to the paint when it is flat, i get a primered effect.

I already did a good number of things to this truck but can any 1 give me a few pointers?

Hi Squarecan.......here's what I came up with......This may make your truck look too light but the basic idea here was to select the truck and apply a linear foreground to background gradient of gray to white and then fade the gradient. Then use curves to tweek the contrast a bit. You can do a much better job by being a little more "selective" with the selection than I was. I hope this helps.....RC [excited]

Thanks for the help guys!

I think I got it to how I like it, But I have another quick question. A friend of mine asked me to photoshop his truck white, he already has a glossy paint, is there any easy way to do it? Cause I can do it, but I do it in like 7 layers(way too much work).

Thanks!
Keith

If you want to keep it grey.....here's a kind of sloppy attempt at adding some reflections but I think it's shining more [confused] RC

Oh oh.....Thanks Squarecan. I was just messing around with a lot of different things. I made a selection with the lasso along the length of the truck near the top of the bed and added another lasso selection to the top of the cab and feathered them. Then I used curves and brightened the selected area. That seemed to work but I canceled that and did the same thing with the dodge tool. That worked too. Then I remembered something Kiwi said about reflections and tried my own. Out of lack of patience and experience I selected a strip of your background....copied it and pasted it back in. Then used the MOVE tool to relocate it. Then went to FREE TRANSFORM and scaled it horizontally ?till it was the length of the truck. Then reduced the opacity of the paste layer and made a layer mask to get rid of what I didn?t want. It surprised me too! [excited] ....RC
