I want to be able to take my pictures of furniture and turn them into a picture that looks like you just traced over the furniture leaving you with black lines on a white background. I know that this has to be possible but i have tried everything i know to try. I have photoshop 5.0

In Photoshop 5 you could try:

Filters > Stylize > Find Edges.

Filters > Stylize > Glowing Edges and then desaturate.

Use these along with maybe a Curves adjustment for experimenting.
Try running these filters on a duplicate layer and then twiddle with the blending mode.
