Default Bug #2

Ok, you guys are fast with the answers here.......got the answer to another ps bug question in no time. lets see if anyone knows of this one. it may not be a bug, as the last one turned out to be something i just wasn't aware of.

after selecting an area with the clone stamp i can stamp it once or twice at the most before the selection changes as tho it had selected a different area. in other words just as an example, say i selected the eyeball on a persons face. then i stamp it on his forehead. if i stamp the eye once or twice more at the most without selecting the eyball each time, on the second or third stamp it might then have some of the nose in it or some other part of the picture somewhat close to the area i originally selected.

is this a bug, or just a limitation of the clone stamp, and is there a way to defeat this "feature"?

What you're describing is the normal behavior of the clone stamp. What it does is paints pixels from one area to another and moves relative to where you started. So, if you click to start cloning at a certain point and then start stamping 100 px away. When you move to 200 px away, the original that is being cloned FROM is now 100px away also. If you would like the cloning to occur from a set location each time you start stamping, turn off the aligned cloning toggle.

No matter what, though, you are limited by the amount of the original you have. If you are cloning a section that is only 100px by 100px, you can't expect to get a swatch that is even 101px by 101px. If you want a texture that is going to cover a larger area, you should work with patterns and not cloning. Often times you have to invent textures to fill badly damaged areas of a photo or cover something you want to get rid of.

Hope that answers your question...

Man, do i feel stupid ! I'm usually the one who is always telling people to always explore and you'll find answers many times in seconds. Then i go and ask a question about something where the fix was right in front of my face. I just never even looked at the aligned check box. I have no idea why, but this incident will wake me up to future situations like this one. Anyway, it worked, and i thank you for your answer Mindbender.......
