Ribbon Tutorials...??

Does anyone know of any good tutorials for creating a 3-d looking ribbon? I've tried playing around with it but can't quite get the effect that I'm trying for.

Fastest and easiest way I know is to make a rectangle. use a slight gradient fill, then using a combination of Transform and Liquify, you can bend and flip it...

I'm in the middle of something right now, will try to post an example this evening...

Someone else may have a better way posted before then.

Here is a basic rectangle with a very obvious gradient, the effects of the "Shear" filter, the Liquify Tool, and the "wave" filter.

It all depends on the effect you are trying to achieve. Practice and experiment, and you'll find you become much more comfortable with Photoshop than simply following a step-by-step proceedure that might not quite be what you're looking for.

Another good candidate for.... yes... ... you guessed it...

Displace.

And of course, the definitive tutorial on beginning with displace:

I've used dmaps to build filmstrips, ribbons, etc. and it works well... plus the added bonus that you can use the dmap to shade your work when you're done

Some extreme bends will have to be drawn by hand, but this makes like super easy.

You haven't mentioned the word "bow" yet but I sorta like the ribbon and bow tut on this site: http://www.chadogroup.com/carla/red_bow/

I've used it several times and have been happy with the outcome

Sinedots adds a little extra translucency to the effect if that is what you are after.

Ms Oz happy you are happy! I'll look around for more sinedot tuts however, I sorta like monkeying around with them without tuts because the anticipation is greater %} %} %}

We have had some threads on Sinedot some time ago...

It's one of those plugins that cannot be reproduced in Photoshop...
