Default UH OH!@ My type won't show!

This has just started since yesterday evening, but for some reason I cant get type to show on anything, no new "canvas" or existing "canvas'". Has anyone ever had this type of problem? Has Photoshop 7 just all of a sudden forgotten how to show the type that I'm inputting into the program? Yesterday was fine, but last night and today? POOOOOF!

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ric

tried it, didn't do the trick. I resorted to doing text in paintbrush of all things, and c/ping it to ps7, then doing my thing. I can't find anything in help files or anywhere on the web to help,

The text types out in the layers box, and the spaces advance as I "type" away. But nothing at all will show on screen. It's like everything is transparent text, when I know it's not supposed to be.

Does this happen with all fonts? Usually when you type in a font that doesn't contain all of the characters in the map, it will just leave spaces.

Does it do this with all type tools? Some tools aren't meant to leave text, but to leave selections. If you have selections hidden, then you would be getting a whole lot of nothing showing up.

One thing to try would be to open your text palette and click the drop down arrow and check "reset character" to make sure that you aren't using some weird combination of character settings that's somehow breaking something.

If that doesn't work, maybe blowing away your preferences will help... sometimes even a reinstall doesn't blow away preferences. (this is worse on a windows machine where you're system relies on a registry to track application changes).

Are any other programs exhibiting this behavior?

Are any other tools in Photoshop not working as expected?

What OS are you using?

Regular old fonts, nothing special.

All type tools are included in this. (selections hidden?)

Not sure how to do this.

No, only PS7.

Everything else is working fine as I can see in PS7.

What OS are you using?

XP home.[/b]

About hidden selections - you can make selections invisible by choosing the menu option or by hitting ctrl+ H. This will hide your helper visuals like marquee's, guides, slices, etc.

If this happens with all your tools, that probably isn't the case though.

Are you using a font manager? That could interfere with the operation of fonts.

What else is loading on your computer? Any other applications open when this occurs? Anything installed and running in the background, like system tray apps or whatever?

How about transparency settings, have you tried toggling between hardware and software transparency?

Are you on the latest version of Photoshop?

Have you updated your system recently? New video drivers are a common culprit of things like this.

Blowing away photoshop's preferences. Hold ctrl+alt+shift when you double click the icon to start photoshop. It will prompt you if you want to erase your preferences. (I'm pretty sure those are the keys, a windows user wanna back me up on this or correct me?)

No font manager. I'm asuming you mean like adobe font manager program.

The only thing I've had open when there is anything, is a web browser, mozilla or IE. zone alarm, norton, ftp.

don't know how.

7.0 straight up,

Have you updated your system recently? New video drivers are a common culprit of things like this.

Haven't done anything to the system to "upgrade" it. As I said it just started happeneing last night, yesterday it was fine.

Well, the first thing I would do is to update to 7.0.1

If you haven't installed any new software or hardware recently, then I would maybe consider that you have either drive corruption or some kind of malicous activity (virus and the ilk).

I've never heard of that happening. I've typed faster than my computer could keep up, but I don't think that counts.

What happens if you copy text from say, notepad, and then hit the type tool and paste into it?

I know this is just some simple problem that's elluding description, that's always how it goes. haha

AS I said, I'm resorting to doing basic text in paintbrush at the moment, and c/ping it to ps, then doing work like it was no problem there.

It's freakin' weird i tell ya.

When you cut and paste, are you pasting editable text or just pixels?

Well, I played with every type tool feature I could. The only two ways I could reproduce what you described was if I either:

- typed with the same color as the background

or

- created a layer with 0% fill and typed on that

I thought maybe it was a paragraph problem, but even in paragraph mode it showed text.

Do you use any multiple langue IMEs? I've had weird things happen when I try to type and accidentally change IMEs in the middle of typing.
