I think it looks great! Sorry I couldn't comment earlier...I like the way the eyes balance. I might try to work some more detail on the right eye. I don't know about the text though, I might try to rework the positioning. I love the typeface though.

The piece looks good. I don't see the need for two eyes though.
I disagree with tranquil222; I personally think that the LEFT eye needs more work. I would get rid of the left eye, switch the right eye to the left side, flip it and bring out the eye lashes a bit more.

Haven't you ever heard the saying "if you can't say something nice..."? If you've hung around here enough, you know that even the "blanket praise" patrol will eventually look at it and tell you it's great, so when a length of time passes without ego stroking (as that is about all blanket praise is good for), instead of "begging" for comments, you should take the silence as a sufficient comment that the work is so uneventful that it generates no real comments of depth. But since you in effect "challenged" us for comments, here ya go.

Personally, the Typeface defeats the title. The eye has to work far too hard to discern "art" from eye. The clipart doesn't coordinate, in that the one on the left is far too abstract to represent an eye at first glance, and is overshadowed by the almost .jpeg photograph of the other eye by the word "art" which doesn't look like art, and the eye goes around again to try to make sense of it. The monochrome color doesn't help. It's a nice "gee, look what I made!" exercise, but that's about all. For Web design, I couldn't sell this banner, and as a site owner, I wouldn't buy it. But, OH, I'm being SO negative to tell you what a basic wash out this piece is, so rather than then have to read 4-6 people argue for the merits of this less than stellar production, it's far easier to just look at the banner, think "extremely boring" and move on to the next post.

Not every piece you will post on the Internet will be noteworthy, nor comment worthy. Learn from the silence as well as the noise.

And what are your suggestions Madster?

Show Mickey how he can improve, I mean that's what we're all here for or not... to help each other.

mikey, I would hope you have enough Life experience to be able to correct things pointed out to you in a clear, concise manner without having to be spoon-fed and "shown" each step of the way...especially as you only asked for comments, not in-depth tutoring.

I charge $60 and hour for that [stuned] AND get it! [bustagut] .

Chalk this one up to experience, and go create something fresh!

Hello mikey,

If this design will be for your own web site then you want it to be as original as possible. I am going to be honest with you, right now it looks plain - the font is unimaginative, and the eyes really look like something you could get off a clipart CD.

If you need inspiration try visiting some websites whose designs and graphics you like. You can also get great inspiration from books, magazines, even visiting the local musuem.

Sometimes we just need an energy boost, especially if we have hectic schedules or are working too much or both. Too much work (or even school) can really dull the creative senses.

If your focus is the "eye", and I would think it is, since that is the name you have chosen - Eye for Art - then I would work on making that eye unique and trying to blend it in with the name itself.

Just for the heck of it I typed "eye for art" into Google and then browsed through all the Images. You can click on the Images tab in Google and check out the graphics that come up with your search. This is also a great way to get ideas and to seek inspiration from other's work.

A really cool image I found is on this web page (please keep in mind this image is copyrighted):

http://www.tcnj.edu/~artmain/nonflash.html

I found this using the Google method I mentioned above. You should give this a try and see if it helps you.

Apparently he's not the only one. Wow, we're all very impressed. You charge less than half what I do, maybe I should out-source.

Yes, the begging for comments can be annoying, but often posts slip off the radar because of the nature of the forums sessions to move anything outside of your current session to "old news". So if you look at the actual content of his post, it seems an appropriate time to bump it just in case it was missed.

I actually agree with your assessment of the material, but (as usual) I don't agree with your delivery. I don't think the "blanket praise patrol" method is the way to go, but acting the antithesis and tearing someone down without direction is just as bad. The very fact that he's posting something like this here would say to me that he doesn't have that much life experience, or technical experience, or artistic experience and is looking for help from those who do. I realize you were never new and inexperienced, but some of use were.

mikey - you need to be aware that sometimes humor or tone doesn't translate into typed word. I'm assuming from what you wrote that it was meant in a friendly manner, but you need to realize that it often doesn't come across.

As for your piece. I would take some of the advice here and try a fresh redesign. The problem I think you will run into is not the design, but the cliche nature of the phrase. You will have a very hard time making something as overused as "eye for art" stand out from the croud. You might consider a brainstorming session or two with some collegues to see if you can generate some other names. Just sit and write everything you can think of, then let the list sit for a couple days. After a couple days have gone by, re-read the list and see which ones still sound good. Then work up some concepts for that. Never settle for your first design. Build several designs (as BC told you do elsewhere) and go through the sitting and revisting process again. Show them to other people. If you still like the first one, then great, but at least you've explored your options. C9 makes one good point, whatever you do should try to be unique. I would follow his advice, but for different reasons. I would visit other people's sites that had similar content and themes so you know what not to do if you want to stand out from the croud.

$0.02... in fact... $0.03

If I may clarify .... what I meant was that he should check out other designs to jump-start his own creative juices. I never implied that he should copy other's work.
