Hey you old Guitar picker you Welcome back - you have been missed.

Photoshop CS is just Adobe's fancy name for Photoshop version 8.

CS was released to the public about 2 months ago or so, there are a few enhancements that make life a little easier, but there is much speculation as to whether it is enough different from PS 7 to warrant the expense of the upgrade. Seems everyone has a different viewpoint.

I upgraded, Erik says he doesn't think he will, at least for now, and there are as many different opinions in between as there are grains of sand on the beaches.

You will have to read through some of the threads to get the full feel of the opinions..

Aside from that , again let me say WELCOME BACK

Adding to this: I am convinced that who has PSCS has a very good app. There are things that are made much easier, some inprovements for people with better-than-average digital cameras (RAW mode must also be supported on the camera), less gaps in histograms when tweaking levels due to 16 bit support, etc etc.

For me, personally, I see no immediate need to upgrade. I take a lot of pictures, but I don't own a digital camera as DC's don't yet answer my needs (most of all due to a lack of money to buy a single reflex digital with three separate lenses, and a wide angle lens that matches a 20mm on trad. camera's isn't available due to the smaller sensitive surface of the cam.).

I can do all I want with 7, there's still so much to discover, and, adding to this the fact that over here the upgrade is at least one third more expensive, I wait, and see what's left after the publicity hurricane has calmed down.

No more than that.
I hope to read reviews from our gang here at PSG because I know them. So Rick and the others: please, when you know CS better: let me know your personal thoughts and impressions that fall outside the Adobe brochure.

Thanks folks....that clears things up! Like Erik, I?m going to wait and for the same reasons. The 16 bit feature sounds much better than the work around meathods that are available to us.
Oh yes, what does CS stand for?

C9......Thanks for the link to the reviews.

Rick......I?m switching over to lap steel due to arthritis in my left hand. I?m learning a few blues licks at the moment.
[excited]

It's good to be back......RC

CS stands for Creative Suite. Rumour goes that over at Adobe they found macromedia's idea of an MX suite very good, so they joined that trend.

When you now buy the whole lot of apps(Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat,...) together, you get a good discount. But you are stuck with upgrading the whole bunch too next time. At least: that's what I've heard.

Good to have you back, and sorry to read about the artritis...
