Yeah but a lot of shit doesn't work on a linux. It's more for programming really.
I would rather have a decent mac than a good pc to be honest with you. It's not just because the mac is "cooler" jarle. It's cooler because of all the fixtures and its usability.
At school, in the design/production departament, we have the most top of the line amazing computers that I am sure you would love. They are very powerful machines, and they use them for 3d Animation and they render something in a flash. Hoenstly, my macbook pro runs apps faster than those pcs. Maybe some of the processes take longer on here, but just the everyday use is a lot faster.
I'm sure a great pc is great... but the mac is not realy that much more expensive.
Actually this is how I ended up buying a mac. I was going to get a laptop, but a pc laptop. We looked at some of the good brands of pcs because I didn't want to get a shitty one. A pc laptop with the EXACT same specifications as my macbook pro was more expensive. And the screen was smaller. If you add the graphics card that this machine has, the dual processors, the fact that it runs OSX, and even your "cool" element and UI, for less than the pc laptop with the same specs... for like 50 dollars less it was. So I bought the mac because it is a better machine and it turned out cheaper.
And for the gamers... you should see how good medal of honor works on my laptop

. Laptops are not really for gaming, and macs are not really for gaming, but the games that they do have for mac look great. Half life 2 works well I heard too.
And the reason apple have not tapped into the market for games so much like microsoft have is because it is not sucha big target market compared to music, movies, cellphones. After the iphone, they might tap into the gaming market as well and get some big deals.
This is what makes apple great. They make their own software and operating systems like windows. BUT then they make their own hardware, the macintosh, to work perfectly with their software. Windows doesn't. They build operating systems for someone else's machines. So they don't always sync and gell and that's why you have little kinks and errors and fuck ups. It's much more than superficial.
