Pretty pitiful first half so far. Not too quality as always between usa and mexico from what I have seen. USA has had 1 and a half opportunities, and the only good pafrts of their game has been dempsey's 3 or so little displays of skill. They need to get him more involved. And Rolfe who? He hasn't even been on the field all first half. Mexico has not done that much either. Medina has been impressive and has made some nice offensive moves. If Borgetti would have scored the header from the corner I would have banned myself from ever watching Mexico play again... a bit of a deja vu boring scene. The second half better improve.. or else I'll be pretty pissed off about wasting my time.
This is what I would do at this moment if I was USA coach:
I would switch to a 3-5-2 and put twellman in instead of rolfe.

Well it ended
USA 2-0 Mexico.
I was very impressed in the second half but mostly by Mexico. They really didn't play the typical mexico game and I think Sanchez really brouht a more dynamic style to the team. The most impressive player BY FAR for mexico was Jose Guardado. He just changed the game when he came on. Mexico did amazing second half.. but it seems no one can finish unless it is in the air for Borgetti. And he sucks.
Conrad was amazing and Howard made some awesome subs as well. And the speed of Bornstein was really impressive. He had a great game for a young player too. And the canadian ref did help donnovan a little bit on his goal at the end.
What I hated was what Oswaldo Sanchez did after Donnovan's goal, he tried to slide in on Johnson for a cheap shot. Which was kind of lame. But the second half was really entertaining. Good job to both teams really.

I'd just wish that the Mexican players would shake hands after the game.
I don't think the blood's as bad as everyone would (see/like for) it to be.
Bornstein's going to be good, but there's going to be tons of competition for those two outside back spots (Spector, Wynne, etc.). Marvell Wynne is a fucking athlete, like close ten yards on Samuel Eto'o in twenty athlete, and he has been improving with the ball at his feet and with his overall tactical where-with-all. It's a shame we couldn't just combine the two or develop those athletes earlier. |

Aha thanks for the correction man. He rocks anyways. Mexico has some talented young players. So within a few years I think their drought of goals and wins on US soil will end.

I'm surprised he didn't take many shots, he usually does in Atlas but i guess that he feels like he has to send the crosses to the grandpas in the middle.
here is a good video oh him shooting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pe7HMUkSbtQ (sorry for the annoying commentators)
As for the game, it was pretty good.
The US didn't mess around and took their chances, and they have a really fast team.
What i like about the USA is that they are very organized, everybody knows what they have to do, and don't crack under pressure. Especially the defense, they seem to have a lot of cold blood. Counter attacks are dangerous, especially when the field is wet and the ball rolls so fast, and the guys taking the ball are faster, lol.
As for Mexico, i think we are in a good path.
We just need to improve up front, its time for borgetti to step off... and I've never really liked fonseca, he has a lot of heart but that's about it. We need players which can actually put the ball in the back of the net. Thats why we lost against Argentina in the World Cup, and yesterday to the USA. The rest of the team is ok.

I ran across an article in one of Guadalajara’s principal papers, El Milenio, which discussed the game. My apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere. Because of a busy work day, I only translated about 10% of it – what I thought were the most interesting parts (beginning of the article, and the two Sanchez’ quotes):
Again, the U.S.
The Tricolor mastery of the ball was not worth anything. Hugo’s debut was tainted by the lack of conviction of the Mexican team.
Oswaldo was lying on the ground and Landon Donovan was already sprinting toward the sidelines with his arms in the air. The ball was about to cross the goal line and the hearts of more than 50 thousand Mexican fans in the stadium as well as millions on the other side of the border were frowning and shriveling up. And the hope, the thirst of revenge, was dying.
The moment arrived when ball and net collided. It was 2-0. It came in the most humiliating manner - From the cleats of the most hated executioner of Mexican soccer. Again, the U.S. And even Hugo Sanchez could not save us.
SNIP
Oswaldo Sanchez reflected what was Mexico last night at the University of Phoenix stadium. The Santos Laguna goalkeeper left the locker room angry and could not hide it. The helplessness overcame him. Faithful to his ways, he was not careful with his mouth when it came to discussing the loss against the United States.
When he found out minutes earlier that a few of the U.S. players criticized him for trying to injure Johnson after the second goal via Landon Donovan from the Stars and Stripes team, Sanchez was sharp-worded with his reply, “I don’t give a s*** what they say. F*** their mothers.”
The 'keeper accepted that there is no defeat that hurts more than the one against the United States, the most hated rival and one that has built a clear supremacy over our "Greens" in the past few years.
"I get very angry when I lose, but it's even worse when it's against this team. I don't care how, but we had to win this game. We couldn't and that leaves one feeling very helpless."
SNIP
Hugo Sanchez assured the media that more than having suffered his first defeat with his Tricolor, what hurt the most was how it happened: “It’s frustrating to play a good game, to create many goal opportunities, to have everything to deserve victory, and it is the rival, with so little, that actually steals the win. There is nothing pleasant about this situation because we lost against a rival that did not deserve to win.”
“Let’s also point out that they trained for almost one month while we only conducted two practice sessions. This gives optimism that, by the Gold Cup, we will reach the level that we want.”
END TRANSLATION
| Jesus...
Out of season, primarily domestic squad, and we're prepared?
Granted, we've been in camp, but most of the players had only played one single game in months.
