Hi Mateo...
The one thing i'll say, is that the wrapper will contain some reflective highlights. But these highlights will not have any specific kind of detail to them. They'll just be made of varying shades of light grey to white.
These highlights can pretty much be arranded in any way you want, just so long as they flow along the contours of the wrapper/candy.
You may also wish to add just a small bit of Noise to the wrapper. To help make it visible. But just a real small amount. And use Mono Uniform noise, not Gaussian.
Post your WIP if you like Mateo so we can help with your progress, if you like. [honesty]

Take a candy wrapper or look for one on the internet and study it.
It's not a sin you know, I've talked with a lot of great artists who needed to see an example first, not to copy it, but only to figure out how to approach the problem.
'Seeing' is more important than 'asking' when it comes to art...

you may also want to consider the reflective property of some wrappers and shape of the candy that is covered. Is it more of a low lust tootsie rool or a high lust gum ball. Just try and think or the variables when you choose the candy.

I tried several different ways to do this, and this is what I came up with.
I actually wanted a Photoshopped look and feel to it, but I just cannot seem to paint randomly enough.
What I did was, I found a stock foto of a plastic tarp. I adjusted the brightness and saturation(took out all color.) then I copied small sections of the photo and created layers. I blended each layer to Overlay and placed these in an area that made sense to the form of the candy wrapper. Then I painted certain areas with the brightest value of white and blurred these with a gaussian blur.
I merged the layers and lightened it and added noise per Marks suggestion. I am very critical of the work, and feel that I have a good start, but not quite there. Would appreciate any critiques...

Pretty good.
I would expand it more so the wrapper was raised off the candy's surface a little more. Even a tightly wrapped mint would show a little of the plastic on its edges. Just one thing, please limit your pictures to 600 pixels width when posting them. You don't want to offend the bandwidth gods, would you? |
