Here we go again with the third and final template for my jewelry site. Those who have seen the earlier two will surely agree that this is the best of them all. It is also the easiest in terms of slices and layers. I am really very excited about it. I've been using the Visual Quickstart Guide to Photoshop by Weinmann and Lourekas, an excellent reference book, to help with specific issues and have also been using the Internet extensively to find articles on specific features of Photoshop.
Question: How do I delete type from the central "Welcome to my company" slice.
Please notice that I replaced the default font in the "Welcome to Immortal Gems, Where Mondera's Stars Shine" with the Vivaldi cursive font. I also replaced the grey background with white, then saved the original PSD as optimized in ImageReady and replaced the corresponding slice in Dreamweaver MX.
Now, I tried to delete the default text so I could add little thumbnail images by using the Marquee selector and pushing the text down and to the side. But how do I delete it altogether? I noticed that this layer is locked in the original.
Please note some gibberish in the bottom right corner of this panel. That's the text that I had moved using the Marquee selector. I would like to delete it so I could have a clean slate and add image thumbnails of several Hollywood celebrities wearing Mondera jewelry.
Is this a template you made from the beginning or a template you purchased online? Please don't be mad but I have seen some strange stuff in templates purchased online.
If you made this from the beginning, (good for you!!!) then unlocking a layer is just a matter of clicking the lock beside the layer to turn that off.
Thanks for writing. No problem. This template comes from BoxedArt (http://www.boxedart.com), where I purchased a year's subscription to all their templates. I checked the lock toggle in the Layer's palette. Most of the objects are "partially locked" as Photoshop's hints clearly state. Is that good news?
Well I looked at their rules and regs. Some files, according to them, cannot be changed due to copyright issues. When you purchase it is a one owner lic but there are some things they do not allow you to change. So if you cannot unlock all of the layers then you may want to email them and ask about it. I would think you can unlock the main layer and groups as well but they seem to have a limit on what they will allow you to do with the files.
If you cannot make the changes you need then you may want to remove that layer and add one of your own. That is one of their suggestions as well. There was a mention of replacing logo's and other gifs and they stated you can DELETE the layer and add your own.
Thanks so much for the good advice about copyright. Never thought of that. Will contact them and ask. I think that what is not allowed is modifying the templates and selling them. But I will ask and find out and report here.
