More modelling etc. This one started with the desire to create some kind of crystal shape. As all poly primitives wdidn't offer a good start, I wanted to begin with some points. Problem was how to place them. There was indeed this spline-primitive "star", but that was only good for extruding...
I knew that copying points has to be done in the structure manager as normal copy and paste copies and pastes the whole spline object instead of the points. Yet, when the spline is made editable, the points selected and set to uniform, they could be copied and serve as starting point(s) for creating polys.
This can also be done in vs. 6.
The rest was exciting, and fun.
Enjoy. I now also add the wire:

C4 8 + BHODINUTS absolutely are the bees knees!!! 8}
I took the roadster into Cinema v.8 and I'm gobsmacked by the rendering. (and I haven't even turned up the twiddly bits yet!) Stu, the Grand Master of understatement, Body Paint 2 is something else and a half from another planet!!
It Rocks and Rolls and Squirms and Wriggles!!
[saywhat] Calm down lad, what will the neighbours think?
Yes, I'm having fun and I don't care! (He! He!)

Al, your enthusiasm can be felt over here like cozmic tidewaves... [righton]
Just to let you know that the most important plugin ever has been launched: MeshSurgery. 99Euro, vat included, from www.tools4D.de (if you prefer ShareIt to PayPal). Have your final serial of Cinema 8.2 ready, as you need it!

;\ Yes [/b]Erik, I do tend to get carried away sometimes. [bustagut] [bustagut]
I'll forego the MeshSurgery for now, I think I've got plenty to play with for the time being. [righton]

Howdy guys

Heres another good one as well. http://129.125.101.174/c4dportal/index.asp
Wait until you get into layering shaders uopon shaders using fusion, then fusions within fusions etc, that becomes fun...

experiments with glass:
The sphere is a bit deformed, trying to get Venetian glass.
The bottle is meant to be older but not dirty or damaged
The object an experiment in lighting and reneder effects. A bit of noise was added to the light coming from the front

Thanks. Must say that I envy Al as it has taken me some two years to (finally!) understand the basics of 3D. Now, suddenly, things become easier and more exciting, but I assure you that I often reproached myself of having bought this -for me- very expensive app.
When I see how he buys the thing and starts with that car [shocked]
Question is I know what I want to do, but the more I know about 3D, the more I also know that it'll be a question of several millions of polygons, and who knows how much ram and how the render time will be...
Side remark. You want to know what the basic insights are, I mean: the things that halted me? Promise you won't laugh! It's this:
1/ A 3D application does not do 3D but acts as if
2/ It does this by adding a third axis to the width (X-axis) and height (Y-axis) of the monitor. This third axis is called Z-axis and, because depth increases "into" the monitor, positive Z values are farther away. Coming closer means becoming more negative.
3/ Everything in 3D is defined with those three coordinates (this much X, that much Y and so much Z) and the way these "points" are connected with one another following mathematical formulae.
4/ To be able to work with these mathematical shapes, they have to be changed into a system of points, these points have to be connected by lines called edges, and 3 or four of these edges form a triangle or quadrangle, aka a polygon.
5/ To change the shape one can move points, edges and polygons
6/ To build or model as this is known in 3D speak, one can follow two methods:
a: one can start with points and connect these into polygons
b: one can start with a box, cut this up into smaller polygons (offering more points) and drag points, edges and polygons.
7/ To do all this, many tools are at the disposal of the user, and only experiment can show how these work, what they do, and what limits and options they have.
That's all. If someone had told me this two years ago, I would probably...
