Default Clarity of Text in Photoshop

Hi All-

I was hoping y'all could lend me some advice with a current project I'm working on for a friend of mine.

Using Photoshop 5.5:
I am trying to make an image that will go on a T-shirt... The image size has to be 10" X 8" at 300 dpi. When I take a logo that I've already made for him and put it at that resolution jaged edges appear. This also happens with Text I'm creating for the back of the T-shirt. The logo consists of 2 oblong circles that I made in Photoshop with the select tool and paint bucket. They always had jaged edges which I could never seem to get rid of. Also the text I'm making has jaged edges.

My question is, how can I get rid of all these jaged edges so the print looks nice and smooth.

Thanks n advance,
hankhill

When you say it has jagged edges, do you mean you've done a test print?

Monitor images will still show vector text as jaggy, but it prints smooth.

Try a printout on paper.

My first guess is that you are using something that isn't up to par. The logo maybe isn't a high enough resolution to begin with possibly. The text isn't rasterizing correctly because of a font problem or a bad setting (make sure you have "anti-alias" turned on in your text options before you type).

Does it look smooth on screen when viewed at 100% and only get jaggy on the paper?

I think that's it....I changed the text from crisp to smooth, and it seems fine now...

With the logo, it is may layers, and obviously I cannot take it from a lower res to a higher one, which sucks, as I'll have to make the logo over again....

What resolution and dpi would you all start out with if you were making the following:

A logo to go on a website? Would you start big, and then shrink the image

Hank to do a web logo that will blend right in with the page without jaggies or ghosts - I would suggest you check out Mark's tute on the subject here

Is the logo available on print at all? if so you could also scan at appropriate setting for your final output and magnification. You can then go into photoshop and fix colour balance etc etc. If you have the logo in vector format, I would advise getting illustrator and working on it in that.
