Default Realistic glass/pill button tutorial

I am enjoying this tutorial and am learning alot from it. I am curious about the type shadow layer . After applying the blur you say press the v key and hit the down arrow 10 times. I see the subtle effect it is creating but I don't understand what is happening here. I just like to understand exactly what is going on because I like this little effect and what it would do in other situations. Thanks.

what the v key does is change to the default ps tool the arrow and then by pressing the down arrow you simply move the layer that you got selected by 10 pixels; one per keypress.

Or as I like to call it when I blank out when showing someone, the "That black arrow thingie up there...*points* no, the other one.. grr, just hit V".

I don't think that's the TECHNICAL name for it, but it should be damn it!!
