I became interested in making glas, plastic, metal buttons
Now i followed some tutorials, with no problems
Buttons and pills are symetric icons, so it's relative easy to make highlights and effects.
But i'm really interessted in the making of the new apple logo
Transparent, glass, very realistic AND NOT SYMETRIC
Notice the realistic lower edge when light refracts into rounded glass
Yes indeed Erik, that tutorial was great, but it is based on symetric images.
My question is specific for that example because this logo is not symetric. You cant just copy layers and use them to create highlights.
I deleted my pst because, when re-reading your original post, I read the "asymmetric", and Mark's glasbutton tut (that's what I was referring to) is indeed about symmetric objects.
As for assymetric ones, they do behave the same and all is based on the angle of the light falling unto the object, its material (refraction index, transparancy) etc...
This is either done by observing objects in the real world, like water stains on surfaces, or with the help of some 3D app. Once you understand the underlying principle, you can do it in PS with the same method as Mark explains in his tut. But as each object has a different shape, no specific 2D tut can be written.
