What may seem Blatantly obvious to most, Frank Lampard has not justified his selection in an England shirt for some time now and since Euro 2004 has been (IMO) a weak link in the national team. Fat Frank is also the reason that our best midfielder, Steven Gerrard, has been unable to influence England's play in the dynamic and energy driven way he used to (5-1 anyone) and so often does for Liverpool.

What are the alternatives I hear you ask, Hargreaves? Carrick? Parker? All very good footballers but none would compliment Stevie G or benefit the TEAM more than Gareth Barry (again IMO).

So here we go with the bout of the........day. In the Blue corner, weighing in at a lean 14st 6lb wearing the white marzipan shorts with pork scratching trim the 'Dagenham Dough-boy' Frr annnk Lammmmmm-paarrd.

And in the Red corner weighing in at 11st 4lb wearing claret shorts (by Nike)!! with light-blue trim, the' Aston Expressway', Garrrrrrr-eth Barrrrr-rrrry.

The bout will consist of 5 rounds with 10 points available in each round. Most points wins,

Round 1 Passing:
FL - good short range of passing, but anything over 35 yards gets a bit wayward. 6
GB - excellent all round passing, does drop em short occasionally. 8

Round 2 Tackling:
FL - oh dear Franky-boy not very good at this are you? Bit harsh maybe but he's not is he? 4
GB - puts the boot in when needed but reads the game so well doesn't need to get dirty too often (eh Gregs) 8

Round 3 Shooting:
FL - quality, no problems there, although needs a few warm up tries. 9
GB - not bad from the penalty spot could do better from other areas though 6

Round 4 Positional play:
FL - can't play anywhere much other than CM or ACM 2
GB - here we go, CB, LB, DM, CM, LCM and ACM 8

Round 5 Stamina/work ethic:
FL - lots of energy, tends to drift out of the game if it's not going well though 8
GB - gives 100% wherever he is on the pitch and whatever the situation 9

FL - 29
GB - 39

GB WINS!

Fat Frank has been rubbish for England for years now .
Not all of it is his fault ...most of it is though winkeye

Don't quite understand why McClown will yet again persist with Lampard and Gerrard in the middle again. Well actually i do ...its because Fat Frank and Ginster pies (his sponsers) demand that he plays - thats why.

Gareth Barry is quality player whos form this and last season has been exceptional - even when Villa were poor under O'Dreary he was exceptional.
He's left footed but can use both feet equally as well . His range of passing is top stuff.
Plus he has a proper football brain .
He's been good for Villa playing in centre or on the left .
If you were to play him for England youd be best probably playing him on left as Gerrard and Hargreaves might be best central combo.

The fact that rubbish Downing gets to play on the left and has more England caps than Barry is ridiculous!
Absolute joke.
Downing may have bit more pace than Barry but what is pace if you can't play football?!
He can't cross , pass , tackle or anything - an awful player.

You bothered to type all that dribble?

Lamps 20 goals +

Give us a good England coach and maybe Barry will get his chance?

Incidentally why the personals on FL? Try a post without the vitriol and you might be taken seriously.

How can you say Barry is an in and out goal machine like Lamps is.

Frank's record at Chelsea speaks for itself. Just because he has'nt been the player we all know and love since the World Cup, but your forgetting that he is the player that took us too it. Scoring the most goals.

Barry isn't England material as of yet.. maybe in the future.. But Gerrard is the reason Lampard cannot play his game.
