I've searched for the last hour here and google, but couldn't find an answer to my question. Which is, I downloaded the free sample template from templatemonster.com and couple other sites. I'm trying to change the text in the psd file, but can't.
I've got PS 5.0. The capital T doesn't show up in the layers tab for any of the existing text. I've added the fonts to my system, btw. If I create a new text layer the capital T appears for it. I also tried selecting the text tool and selecting the appropriate layer and then ctrl-clicking on the text. That didn't work either.
Is this a version problem? Do I need 6.0 or 7.0 just to edit some text??
derek777 .. it can be done in PS 5 ... unfortunately I can't remember how and my computer with PS 5 is on loan to a friend ... several members here will be able to help you ...
Thanks namvet. I could understand some backwards incompatibility with something more advanced, but just to edit text there's got to be something that I'm not understanding.
I am new to PS. Most of limited graphics work is done in Fireworks.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
The trouble may be that the Text Layer has been rastorized which would cause the T to not longer appear on the layer palette. You would not be able to select the rastorized text layer using the Type tool either I believe.
Is there anyway to undo the rastoring if indeed it has been?
The PSD is from templatemonster.com and they offer instructions on how to edit the text amongst other things. You would think that everything would have been left editable.
I've taken the PSD and reduced the size to make a smaller file size and placed it on my server. Would someone mind taking a look at it and see if you're able to edit the text. Even reduced it's around 900k (it was 5.5MB).
I think you will have problems working with text in PS 5.
Checked it on my old machine with 5.5.
PS5.5 generates rasterised text which is not editable.
This means that the text layer is just a bitmap which looks like text.
Later versions of Photoshop brought in editable text.
IE, the text attributes: font, style and size could be altered by highlighting the text and changing it as you would in a publishing application.
Unfortunately, you cannot access these features for your template in Photoshop 5.
derek777 ... I will have my old computer back with me next week (it has PS 5 on it) and I will check out what you are trying to do ... as Rantin Al said text can be edited ... and I vaguely remember resizing when I was using it ... I will keep you posted ..... and I agree, if you are thinking of upgrading wait 'til PS 8 comes out (later this year)[righton] ... in the meantime I'm sure that theKeeper and other members (there are a couple who in the last few months have posted questions about PS 5) will still be able to answer your question further
