Default Upsampling images for print?

I have heard there are specific increments or procedures for upsampling digital files for printing LARGE prints i.e. 16x20", 20x30". I have a need to print out large copies from 2832x2128 @ 72dpi digicam images.....

Thanks......

Hi Jeff, Resampling is generally not a good idea.

The original file sizes you quoted will give:

15 x 20 @ 141 dpi with no resampling.

30 x 22,5 @ 94 dpi with no resampling.

The first should be just about printable on a desktop printer as it is.

The second will give poor quality.

You could try resampling, then blur and sharpen, but it is a case of trash in trash out. Photoshop cannot recreate the missing detail.

There is a new scaling plug-in from Extensis, but I have not tried it personally.

Al

Yeah, Rantin Al has summed it up well, BigRed450! Upsampling results in inferior print output because Photoshop has to "guess" and fill in missing pixels based on surrounding areas!

[stuned] Gee, Golly, Gosh... I'd love to own a printer that could handle a 16"x20" file! And so I dream....
