What is the difference between the Skew and Distort tool? I have opened and played with both controls and they seem to do the same thing. Evidently I'm missing something. As always, thanks.

Hi Lee, the Skew moves a single side, Distort moves a single corner.

They are similar, but different. [bustagut]

Rantin,
Thanks. I just tried it and both the Skew and Distort tools move all the little adjustment squares (for lack of a proper name to call them). I guess I still don't see where they are different.

Thanks for your patience.

The skew and distort tools are very similar(just like all of the transform tools), but skew emphasizes changing only one side while constraining another to a straight edge or moving one side up and down, whereas distort is more flexible and won't constrain your movements as much. The skew tool is just distort with shift held down. Sure, you can achieve the same effect with both(and probably any other transform mode)modes, but each emphasizes a different sort of distortion. Experimentation is the key! Give em a try!!

Lee, I see why you are confused.

The Skew does allow a 'distort' but only if you overcome the slight snap-to which acts more of a constraint than as a proper snap.

The snaps below explain better than this waffle.

Here is Mister Skew......

...and his close cousin, Mister Distort.

Hope this makes it easier to understand.

And if I remember well... holding the Shift key when you use distort will turn it into a skew.

Holding the Alt key (either distort or skew) will show you even more surprises

Also try this;

- Right click on selection
- Select Transform Selection

Every rotate, scale, perspective, skew and distort can be done with Trandsform Selection if you know the right shortcuts.

Btw, once you've selected the Transform Selection, do a 2nd right click and a new window will reveal all these transform options that I mentioned earlier.

Thanks, guys. [righton] Those examples were a big help Rantin. I'll have to try the shortcuts, Gaus. That'll be a big help.
