Default Help with slicing

hi this is my first post and i just came across this forum and i thort wow i can get help here and fast lol.... basically i have made something in photoshop which i then want to put on the net. i need to slice it, unaware of how to slice thigns in photoshop i did it in macromedia fireworks, the only problem is i used a photo in my design and its got sky in it the sky now has a few different blue shades rather than one smooth picture. fireworks saved them as gifs which is wat i would expect but not the quality has gone down quite alot with the photo! Look at the logo in attachments.... Please could someone tell me why this is and how i can fix it and also someone refer me to a toot covering everything on slicing. thanks alot

For pictures with gradations like that, you probably want to save them as jpegs, not gifs. Gifs are good for things with just a few colors, like your left hand logo.
Im also curious about slices too. Particularly whether you can save one slice as a jpeg and another as a gif. This particular example would benefit from such a feature, as would some of my layouts. Although putting jpegs and gifs adjacent to each other in html tables is doable, and often a pain, doing it straight from photoshop would eliminate that step.

thanks for the help all!

First up welcome aboard Danger [righton]
Once upon a time [bustagut] [bustagut] [bustagut] nah a long time ago I wrote this pdf for someone expaining how to create a basic sliced up site in PS......... she had to add roll overs etc which is why I have in the instructions to jump to IR - for now do this also because...........

As Tranquil asked......... how can you save some slices as gifs and some as jpg's ........ you will find in IR that if you use the slice selection tool you can hold shift then click on the slices which is selecting the slices that you want to save as gif's then go up to ...... slices/link slices then on your optimise pallet you can select jpg or gif set the quality etc now all of the slices that you linked together will be the same format (jpg or gif) and the same quality - hope that helps [righton]
Danger try opening and starting again in ps with your photo
place your guides where you would like to slice your image then go to file/jump to IR

well I hope it helps anyway

Default Help with slicing

Hello Danger

Have been reading the postings here myself.

Using a "bgcolor" (background color)or a "bgimage" (background image) in the content area (table cell) is the simplest approach and would allow your content area to expand as needed.

The bgimage will need to be a seamless tiling image.

There may be other approaches as well...
This is a great place to learn new things.
