My selection and lasso tools all of a sudden arent makeing smooth straight diagnol lines and other lines, but making jagged lines... even my circular tool. Can someone tell me whats going on?
Im not that of a photoshop newbie mark, this is my 3rd yr. with ps The anti-aliasing is on for all the tools (lasso and seceltion and marquee and the fill tool) and its having that problem. So everything is antialiased in the first place, and the stuff is still... really pixelated and screwed up along the edges. You can see what i'm talking about right? I'm sure you do, but there must be a way to fix this [stuned]
Did you try to delete your preference file by holding Ctrl+Shift+Alt when you start Photoshop (make sure that you make a copy of your preference file first if you want to keep it)?
That is a wierd fluke. Ive never heard of a feature that would create jaggedy noisy edges along your selections. Are you filling the selections via the edit-->fill command or brushing them in, or....? The only way I could think of duplicating this is if "noise" is checked for your brush settings. Even then, I think you would have to feather the selection to get that effect on the outside. Otherwise, i dont know. An uninstall and reinstall might be in order. Good luck in fixing this, i'd be very annoyed at this problem had it happened to me.
If a corrupted PS preferences file turns out to be the culprit...
After you have followed Gaussians steps above and have restarted PS. Set up the PS preferences again that you use and then you can set the PS preferences file to "Read Only" in the properties menu for that file. Then the file will not be over written and the sudden strange malfunctions go away.
But keep in mind that if you need to change any of your preferences again you will first need to uncheck the "Read Only" status.
I have personally done this on my own PS and am very happy with the result.
The above tip is for Windows PC users maybe a little different for a MAC machine.
its no prob with feathering, they're all set to 0. And i filled the selection using the fill tool, and its not the fill tools problem either Gaus, i tryed doing that, it abviously didnt work because my prefs seem the same But this is REALLY starting to piss me off. I'm working on some projects that really need these tools to work right
There's also another possibility; graphics card, since I noticed that these are strange looking jaggies.
It's not uncommon that things break during the summer (hot temperatures).
I have a problem with my graphics card too. I run it with 90% of it's max. speed. If I go faster then I see little red dots in Photoshop.
Other possibility. Did you change something on your system? New software? Did you tweak you graphics card to run with a higher speed (over-clocking)? Did you do it with your processor? Open some other graphics programs; do you experience weird problems with these too.
Did you change your settings in your BIOS (especially those that are AGP related). How is the rest of your system running?
I'm just brainstorming here. Important is that you try to localize the problem and that you make sure that this is only a Photoshop related problem, otherwise it might be like looking for a needle in haystack...
If this all about filling selections and the anti-alias options for both the selections and fill tool are on, then I can only think about one other single cause; that you use only a handfull of colours...
Did you by accident select a different mode than RGB, like 'Indexed Color' for example?
Please check it for me Alistair, even if you didn't change anything manually.
