Layer sets don't really work the same in Illustrator. You can't really define a group and just make set... what you do is drag the layer items inside each-other in in the layers palate if you want them in a set. This doesn't do anything but organize them in Illustrator though. They won't be linked for moving or act any differently, they will simply be organized differently. If you want to link objects together so that they share attributes in some way, you need to use grouping or pathfinding.
I'm glad you're finally making some progress. |

Good to hear that things are going better now Linda [righton]
I do understand your frustrations; Illustrator can be annoying in the beginning, especially when you're used to Photoshop, I know all about it!

Ok things are going great except for one small problem....how do I change the size? I presized this file in pshop before I brought it in but if I save this for the web in AI I need to change the size and for the life of me I cannot find where to do that. You know I looked for the edit>image size...sorry ;\ and I even checked the help files for image size, change size and I can't find anything.

Select all elements, Lindaw (take the black arrow selection tool and draw a box around all the elements in your design). Alternatively Select->All. You will see the 'bounding box' where you can 'scale' the image to desired size by dragging on the corner anchor points! Holding down the 'shift' key will constrain the proportions.

Rep Power: 7 | Illustrator Help Linda You need to create a Custom paper size, the same size as your final graphic. You do this in the Page setup. Settings > New >set dimensions with no border.
In the document set up, choose "Use Page Set Up". Select the custom page size and fit the graphic to this new custom artboard.
Save this as an eps or whatever.
This sounds complicated | I'll make up some screenshots which makes it clearer. Honest
It's fiddly more than anything. In the meantime, if you are stuck, select the graphic, Copy it to the clipboard.
Jump to Photoshop, create New, accept the dimensions (they should be the size of the graphic, choose the resolution you want.
Photoshop will render it to actual size at the resolution you specified.
Back soon, Al. |

Rep Power: 7 | Illustrator Help Wendy the problem is that if the page setup is at the usual A4, then the graphic will come out as an A4 image on an ocean of white.
Using the custom page size and using this as the document setup means that the graphic comes out at size as it needed, with no border. (Unless one is specified).
I'll get the thing written up after, with screengrabs and samples.
Al
