I like its possabilities. I am currently teaching myself to draw anime atm, and might use it for a banner as a test. Like create something like it with anime line art over it, or etched within etc. Should be fun!!

Just for giggles, I did a variation. It's 50x50, but the grid pattern is still 25x25. This D-Map breaks up the monotony of the first D-Map, but it's a bit too harsh for my tastes.

Again, feel free to get crazy and all that jazz.

Also, this variation also works decently with Filter > Distort > Glass.

Here's another possibility using layer styles. It was a bit tedious but only took about a half an hour including figuring out the style.

First let me say that your design is very elegant. To try and turn your tiles into glass tiles, working at 400% for ease I selected the inside of an existing tile using a fixed size rectangular marquee which was 17 x 17 px except the bottom row which was 16h X17w. Command J (Control J) copied the selection to a new layer and the style was copy/pasted. Initially I had scaled the style to look 'right' to my eye and then faded the effect until it seemed right in the first tile. After that the settings were remembered by Layer>Style>Copy&Paste options.

If I were doing this project for real, I'd put my text layer on top but didn't take the time here as I was just working on your JPEG. If you want the style I've put it up on a public drop. The file is named LittleTile.asl.

awesome effort welles! :} I think its on its way. I will play around with it next chance i get. I'll start back from one of my earlier saves and see if i can get some transparency to it. For the moment I am going to stick with original as I start study again 2moro and my goal was to have my portfolio up by then hehe. I am behind like a week lol. Only because I spent a week of holidays in Melbourne.

I have created the shell for my site at http://www.stickdiesel.com if anyone want to have a look. I have only just come back up to speed with dreamweaver last cpple of weeks and my first efort in like 1 1/2 years. The anime dude, I drew him in illustrator last week and will prob be replaced later, just filling space atm lol.

Thx for all the help guys, I will def play around with it in nxt cpple of weeks, seeing the nav bar was completed in fireworks all I have to do is change the background and replace so not a big job

;\ Here's my attempt.

Selected the squares and saved them as an alpha channel.
Made a copy of the alpha channel, loaded the selection, and guassian blurred 2 pix.
Created a layer above the squares and filled with grey 128,128,128.
Filter/Render/Lighting Effects -Style Floodlight and adjusted the parameters of the light until whole area was covered in the light and choose texture channel alpha 1 copy.
Inverted layer. Set to Overlay.
Created new layer and made a Rectangular Marquee 800 wide x 3 pixels high.
Placed Marquee over a row of squares and filled with white.
Repeated process until all rows had a horizontal line near ,but not at, the top of each row.
Loaded selection from alpha channel 1. Modified selection, contract 3 pixels, feather 2 pixels.
Inversed the selection and deleted.
Deselect selection.
