for your first, it's not bad at all.

how to improve :

1. to begin, do not use any effects on the render. maybe duplicate the render, set the blending mode to overlay, and gaussian blur it with 3 radius. that's enough.
2. the background. you could use this kind of background. But use better colors. darker than that. and try those blending modes, betterly, such as overlay, or what. just keep experimenting so you could found a right color.

and the background needs something more maybe a really faint manure crest or something
