Default Type selection trick and quick merging.

Just realized you could do this! (For all you beginners out there like me.)
If you want to change your "type" layer, instead of selecting it like you would do in a word processer, just double click on the big T over in the layers pallet. Selects it automatically!

And, here's one I love. I discovered it accidently at about 3 in the morning the other day. hehe. If you want to merge two layers together quickly, go to the layers pallet and click on the layer you want to merge and press Control-E. This will merge the layer you're on and the one directly under it.

Couple of useful tips. I'm a big fan of cmd+e My preference is to create a blank layer above your layers, link all the layers you want to merge to that new blank layer and hit cmd+option+e (ctrl+alt+e). This will merge all the linked layers into the blank layer as a flat layer without destroying all your separate, editable layers in the process. Then you have a nice flat version to mess with and you can just turn off the visibility of your other layers but keep them in case you need them for something later.

Good stuff. Layers are yummy

Thanks [excited]

Glad everyone found it useful. That's one of my favorite ones... right up there with when I learned about using layer masks, channels, and custom brushes to hide backgrounds or how to use "blend if" sliders correctly.

If anyone gets confused on this keystroke(its action is called "stamp linked layers"), it is likely this has happened: the keystroke is described as "Merge all layers to active layer", active layer means that you must have it selected before this lifesaving keystroke that Mr. Bender has awoken us to is invoked Thanks MB! This is a lifesaver! No more flattening for no reason for me!!
