can somone help me with the tutorial linked below

prob:
on step 3 it says about the channels but then on step 5 it says to go back to the layers window when i do this the effect doesn't carry over ..can anyone help with this

Create a white Directional light, and aim it down, from the top. Then, create a blue directional light, shining up, from the bottom.
What the author has neglected to tell you, scorpion, is that you must load the Alpha Channel that you created (called "wire bevel") in step 3. [confused]

When you go to render/lighting effects in step #5, at the bottom of your settings window you will see a "fly out menu" entitled 'Texture Channel'. Make sure that you have the "wire bevel" channel that you created in step 3 loaded!
