Can any suggest a top notch Photoshop mag? Specifically I'm looking for one that is more oriented on design ........sorry I was distracted by the really hot blonde at work...... Anyway yes, design oriented with lots of real world input and practical articles on real world applications. I use photoshop daily at work and have figured that I'm simply not good enough for having used photoshop for 8 years (6 professionaly). I need an edge and a stimulate. Have we started graphic challenges here yet? Or am I that out of the loop.
Feeling a little flat with life,
Lompoc42

p.s. Question for the freelancers out there. How did you get a clientele base and become able enough to sustain yourselves? Office life is not for me. Help...

NAPP (national association of photoshop professionals) puts out photoshop user its ok not too much design stuff really mainly tips on using photoshop and stuff like that. (can't get a subscription though you have to join napp to get the magazine in the mail)

Print is a nice magazine focuses more on design than photoshop

Computer Arts is ok

check out the bookstore's magazine section the art and computer sections have a few more.

Yeah I've seen the NAAP website and PRINT magazine. I'm hoping those aren't my only two options. NAAP isn't bad but I guess I just want more! Oh well. The thing is that the NAAP is pretty expensive and it doesn't seem worth it to me. Maybe I'm wrong? [honesty] Someone please let me know [bustagut] [bustagut] B7

I joined NAPP and the website has forums that are pretty informative and they have good tutorials and stuff I haven't really taken advantage of many of the discounts though.

and there are more I can't remember all the names of the ones I've checked out.. there are some that focus more on macs others that focus on design more and don't matter which platform you use (although you can do the mac based stuff on a pc anyway... just change a few things like Command keys are Control keys or the right mouse button)

Well, I have come to dislike magazines. I bought some ComputerArts Specials and some Digits etc, but they're expensive when compared to what they offer. Most tuts go like " open fileX, then open fileY, both are on the accompanying CD,..."

I don't buy any more mags. Instead I buy a book from time to time.
I kinda like Friends of Ed. Photoshop face to face is interesting, so is Professional Photographic techniques, and New Masters of Photoshop (a bit more contemporary design). A timeless book imo is JohnPaul Caponigro's masterclass, edited by Adobe themselves. Apart from that, and free, is browsing the Net. Just take a look at the Links forum and click on every posting by Gaussian. A wealth of information and thousands of sites will open for you.

Yet the best way to learn is to play. Which, I can understand, must be difficult when you use the tool daily for professional purposes...

my eurocent.

Many thanks Erik. I've noted the books. Although i must admit my last trip to B&N proved dissapointing in the photoshop books department. My know isn't what's failing me, it's my creativity. Perhaps it's Florida. I don't feel a very good stimulus here. I think I should return to my place of birth. Santa Barbara. Either that or Spain! I do like reading Gaussin's posts they're informative and insightful certainly. You're not so bad yourself Erik!! Most of the regulars here have a lot to offer. I just wished I wouldn't have taken such a long break from the site. 7 years ago when i first came here I became 10x's better with photoshop almost overnight (because I stayed up and did ALL of Mark's tut's!! [bustagut] ) then i guess college and girls kept me away from my true passions. [doh] silly girls!! Oh well.. Anywho, I guess there's no cure for a lack of creativity. } But there is this great forum and the rest of the internet :} even if most of the OTHER photoshop sites out there aren't so great :B Thanks for the help guys.

Lompoc i'll tell you what i do when i need/want to be inspired... i read an interesting book covering a subject that i like... i go lay out on the grass in the park and stair at the sky... daydream awhile... rent some of your fav movies and rewatch them... or... just stay online at hunt down Galleries of other artists... that usually does it for me if noe of the other stuff does.
