Hello
Was just wondering ,when I download a pic ,right click ,save as, it always seems to be in the art. format. what format is that? I save in the bmp, but seems to only be able to view pic .was wondering is there a way to make pic capable of inlarging and still keep same clarity?

[confused] I'm confused PAKMN as to why you are saving downloaded images as .bmp files. They're just so big... so I'm wondering if there is an advantage to saving them in this format as opposed to their original file format?

As to your question

Photoshop can only "guess" and throw in pixels so I would say "no".

Default bmp.

As a example, I went to Webshots and right clicked on a pic, drop down menu , save as, then it gives the options, one is ART. the other bmp. Those are the only choices I had.Is there a better way?

I'm not familar with the .ART file format at all, PAKMN. [confused]

I use webshots a lot (you need their software installed to download their pictures) and the way that it works is that when you download one of their files (.wbz format), it is put in the Windows directory as a .bmp file, for use as your current wallpaper.

You can download "community" photos without the software, but, from what I've seen, these are always JPEG files. I just tested it myself right now and the only 'save options' that I was presented with were .jpg & .bmp. (see image below)

Bitmap files (.bmp) are designed to be used by Windows as system support files and are not designed for print purposes. From what I understand, they don't resize well and should only be printed at the resolution in which they were created.

The .ART format is a AOL compression format for web graphics used by AOL.

Am posting a link below to a web page that goes over the .ART format and how to save those files as gifs & jpgs. Apparently IE can read the .ART format and save them as gifs & jpgs.

Give this a read and see if it helps you out PAKMN.

You're welcome Wendy

It has been several years since I left AOL but the ART format mystery all came back to me when I read the post.

I don't miss AOL lol

Hey PAKMN! You and me both!

It just goes to show that if you post any query that you have, we'll (collectively speaking) get to the root and, in the process, solve, teach and learn something new!

Hmmm... I don't understand that Gauss. [confused] I've been using the webshots software (just to download their files) for quite some time. It has *never* given me a moment's grief and the picture files are of wonderful quality/resolution. It takes but a moment to grab the .bmp from your Windows folder and do with it what you want after that...
