Actually, I figured out what it was... I guess either I missed something, or read "too far" into the tutorial. I think I may have done something backwards. After deleting the old black layer and DESELECTING, i created a new layer without having the star shape selected, so instead of filling the selection on the new layer i was flooding the entire layer.

But, thanks to everyone for the replies, and so quickly as well.

Hey FreeFour,

You accomplished this tut better than I. I just worked that tut myself day before yesterday. I never was able to get the black background back. Here are my results. Where oh where did I go wrong? LOL. I may not be posting my results right, cause I'm not sure about compression and all in Photoshop so if it is not good and within guidelines, would someone please feel free to delete it?

Dawn, I would suggest that you go back and do the tutorial again. It's always a good idea to do something like this two or three times, to get the knack of the technique "down pat"! Somehow, you've lost the black layer but I'm sure that if you tried it once more and read "very carefully", you'll get the desired result!

I totally agree with Wendy and guess what... you might even discover a new approach

Don't feel bad Dawn, I took a few tries to figure out what I was doing wrong. Then once it came out right, I ran through it a few more times, mainly to "somewhat" commit it to memory, as mine is terrible.

It also gave me a chance to fool around with some of the Blend Modes in the Layer palette. I believe I liked "Vivid Light" the best, that's the one I used in the fuschia star I posted.

Btw, great job on yours... it kinda reminds me of keyframe from a little animation I did in 3DS Max a while back. It has a nice soft look, like a movie companies intro, ala HBO. [righton]
