Default Creating Textures: your basic grunge wall.

Creating Textures: your basic grunge wall.

Basic Texture:
Document :: any size. I used 512x512. (so the Clouds and other filters, would create a seamless pattern)
================================================== ============
Filters to apply:

1) Clouds - fg=50% grey / bg=black
2) Gaussian Blur: 10px
3) Noise: 5/gaussian/mono
4) Spatter: 20/8
5) Unsharp Mask: 250/0.5/0
6) Levels: black output=64
7) Duplicate layer. Run Filter/Other/Minimum, set to 1. Invert (Ctrl+I). Pin Light blend mode. Filter/Noise/Median, set to 1.
8) Hue&Sat adjustment layer - choose colour: Hue=50 Sat=25 Lightness=-50. Apply to Adjustment Layer mask - Clouds, Noise/15/gaussian/mono.
9) Duplicate the Hue&Sat adjustment layer - on Adjustment Layer mask run Ink Outlines: 50/50/0. Set to Overlay.

Variations: each step creates a new & separate variation. But variations can be combined.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) "Merge Vsible" to a new layer.
Run Lighting Effects Filter with a single, light yellow coloured spot light; use default values.
Make sure the spot shines from top-left diagonally, and covers the entire texture area.
Duplicate the layer and set to Darken.

2) Duplicate the merged layer and invert it; Ctrl+I.

3) Run the Clouds filtee on a New Layer.
Then run Unsharp Mask @ 500/10/0.
Run Threshold/24.
Apply Select menu/Color Range.../Select drop down/Highlights.
Press Delete, then Deselect.
Apply Noise: 100/gaussian/mono.
Run Filter/Noise/Median, set to 1.
Then Filter/Stylize/Emboss @ -90/1/500.
Set layer to Softlight.

4) Run Clouds on a New Layer.
Then run Image/Adjustment/Threshold filter.
Adjust slider left until there's only a few small black spots left.
Apply: Select menu/Color Range.../Select drop down/Highlights.
Press Delete, then Deselect.
Then Filter/Stylize/Emboss @ -90/1/500.
Reduce layer Opacity to between 35 & 50%.

5) Run Clouds on a New Layer.
Then run Noise: 10/Uniform/Mono. Motion Blur: Angle=90,
Amount=maximum.
Apply Unsharp Mask: 100 / 0.5 / 0.
Set layer to Overlay.
===============================================

In case you haven't noticed by now, we're basically just changing the original texture by adding dirt, grit, grease, grime, surface damage, discolouration, etc. And to do that, we usually start out with a new layer that has the Clouds filter applied to it. From there, it's just a matter of playing with a few filters to produce the desired visual result, then setting the blend mode and/or lowering the Opacity, to create the right look we want. So now... knowing this, continue on with trying to alter or add to the basic look of our original texture.

Good luck! [righton]
