In that project I was just talking about with the drop shadows. New challenge - I have three photographs at the bottom of the main image that overlap each other. If I apply a drop shadow to the picture on the bottom everything is cool. If I then apply a drop shadow to the next photo it obviously casts a shadow on the first image below it. How do I link these three images together (or just flatten those three) so the shadow only appears on the edges of the three pictures and not on the images below? Am I making sense? [confused] I'm tired. [sleepy] I've been on this project all day.

Anyway, is this even advisable or will it look weird?

Thanks

ither you can merge the photos togehter by selecting them and pressing merge layers in the right mouse buton menu or simply hit the Ctrl E button.

or if you want the photos seperated then you can simply hold Ctrl+shift and click the images/layers and then create a new layer below the photos and filling the selection and then add the droppshadow to that =)

Screen 1

Ctrl/shift click the 2 ore more layers and the create a new one below and fill it with a color of your chooise.

then simply add the dropp shadow to that =)

Hey Lee, what I do is create a drop shadow, then I move it slightly with the move tool, then goto Layer>Layer Style>Create Layer
A new layer will be placed in the layer palette named "Layer/Name"drop shadow.
Select this new layer then move the shadow to where you want it placed, then Press Ctrl/G to group this layer with the layer immediately below!
You will notice that the shadow only cast on the layer directly below and not on the others you may have below in the stack! you can repeat this to other layer using the same process!
I hope I've made my self clear, if not give me a holler [righton]

I never use layer styles, Lee, to create a drop shadow. You have much greater control if you make your own drop shadows on a layer below (selection filled with black and gaussian blurred - layer style set to 'multiply' and opacity reduced). This way, you can nudge your shadow to your liking with the move tool and erase areas that you don't want.

You can even get a little more creative by filling your selection with a gradient of black to grey, thereby having the shadow taper off...

Thanks everyone. I had no idea there were that many choices making something as simple as a drop shadow. I shall try them all. [righton]
