Default Glass balls

I know this subject has been done to death, so sorry to revisit it once again... (for those who grow weary - if there is such a thing), however, I'm quite obsessed with them at the moment. I have been following with great interest all the threads regarding these, and was particularly impressed by Wendy's orbs in this thread... http://www.photoshopgurus.info/forum...pheres&start=0 so I guess my plea (se) goes out to master Wendy herself. I would love to know how to create the transparent glass balls that you have riddled this link with. I have done Marks tutorials on creating glass balls, and have become quite adept at them, but I just don't seem to be making the leap in logic that would lead me to creating clear glass. I have tried a number of things, but am actually stuck on the colour scheming of the balls (have tried, white to black, to grey, etc, but I seem to be missing something). If Wendy would be so gracious (unfortunately there is no emoticon for girl on her knees begging ;\ ) - or any other interested parties for that matter - as to maybe give a quick outline of the first few steps on her creations, I would be most appreciative.

Hi Bubble!

Yeppers, as you well know, having gone through that thread, I spent a lot of time trying to master the recreation of a glass ball! [honesty]

In each and every case, depending on the background, my technique varies. It involves the painting of various light reflections/refractions/shadows, using a number of different blending modes.

This is my latest rendition and, if you like, I'd be more than happy to zip up the PS file for you to take a look at and dissect. Just E-Mail me your addy.

After hours and hours, days and days of trying to figure it out own my own, the "light went on in my head" when I finally went out and bought a real crystal ball. I then started to study what I was seeing and from there, got closer to recreating "as close to the real thing" as I could.

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! I have also downloaded a file of Marks that I found in another thread so that I can pull it apart and "try" to learn something from it... I think i'm just missing some simple, yet elusive, step. Clarity of the object seems to be my problem.

Addy is in the mail...

First I asked myself what a 3D object was doing in the Photoshop General Subjects forum, until I noticed that it was done in Photoshop [shocked]

I'm impressed Wendy; you did a great job! [righton]
