I was reading in eweek about the features in the new PS8 release. I quote eweek:

Photoshop 8 Code-named Dark Matter (PS) and Taconite (Image Ready), the next installment of Adobe's image-editing duo will reportedly feature non-destructive filtering that resembles the adjustment layers in Adobe's After Effects video-effects package.

Photoshop 8 will also include Layer Palette presets that will let users maintain multiple palette sets that they can invoke via a menu. Photoshop 8 will also let users select multiple layers, then execute a single change to all of them simultaneously.

Other Photoshop improvements will include enhancements to the File Browser, improved keyboard customization and support for non-square pixels. The upgrade will also boast enhancements to the user interface, support for JPEG 2000 and a GUI-based Picture Package layout manager.

ImageReady, the Web-graphics package bundled with Photoshop, will also ship with its own slew of enhancements, including nested layer sets, greater integration with Photoshop and user-interface tweaks
I'm glad to see improvements in File Browser! and also selecting multiple layers for one single changes...may have to save my pennys for this upgrade!

One thing i recently thought of for the "wish list", which is probably way too late to add to now , is to be able to "Load Texture Channel..." in the Lighting Effects Filter. Instead of only being able to use one from within the current document, i'd like to be able to load one that's been previously saved and stored -- very much like you can now do for the "Texturizer" & "Glass" filters.
And to go with this new feature, i'd like a larger preview window within this filter too. We need to be able to see more detail than we can now. I feel like i'm guessing most of the time with that filter. And rarely can you just walk through it and get the desired results the first time.

Aaah well...

I already know a feature that will be included in the first update (the wishlist is indeed closed...bummer...). They were sooo enthusiastic about it that they decided to give me the upgrade for free

It is, in fact very simple: a new tool that is called "Make Masterpiece", and that does the job.

They will add it on the 8.01 update, to be released on April 1st, 2004. You're warned!!!

One can't be sure that e-week had all the features to be in PS8. Perhaps some were missed. I've noticed that business info magnazines sometimes miss the most succulent details. I'm hoping Adobe will make an announcement SOON so we know for sure all the details and we have something to think about while waiting for the 4 quarter! Yes?

For those of you who are curious for details (like me [confused] ) Taconite is not an a speciman Taco, it actually comes from an old name for rock formations first identified in the Taconic Range (Vermont and Mass). + ite. An iron-bearing chert containing from 25 to 35 percent hematite and magnetite: it is a low-grade iron ore that is pelletized for blast-furnace reduction
