Players Moyes should be going for
As I'm sitting here like most Evertonians waiting for our first signing of the season, I do find myself a bit wondering just who we'll end up with.
I'm not a dellusional fan and know that we are not in the position to go out and spend £10m on a player and cannot compete with joke clubs like WHU & Newcastle who are willing to play frankly average players 60k p/w.
Every Sunday you pick up the paper and it will say Moyes is interested in Jagielka, Nugent and a foreigner I've never heard of.
I like the idea of Jagielka as I think he's got a lot to offer, however Nugent doesn't do a lot for me at £6m. Can a Championship really demand >3m for a player who's never kicked a premiership ball? If he ws that good, surely theyd have been in the playoffs at least?
I'd like to see us going the following (note realistic targets ONLY):
1) Luke Young - r.back is poorly staffed position at EFC. Hibbert has his well documented limitations. Luke young offers a cheap yet very realiable alternative.
2) Phil Jagielka - will be useful should we manahe to stay in competitions after Xmas this year due to his versatility.
3) Manny Fernandes - season long loan again as he offers the sort of quality normally reserved for Arsenal. Cannot afford the quoted 12m fee so loan seems like a nice option.
4) Kevin Doyle - yes i know he's only had a half season after injury but with Bent clearly off to SPurs this would be realistic target. He has goals written all over him and international pedigree too.
5) Jason Koumas - bound to leave WBA now but I'm put off by 4m fee. Quality player with ability to change a game. I would only pursue it if the Fernandes deal couldn't be setup.
One last thought for West Ham United fans. Anyone can have loads of cash and throw it about but you can't buy pedigree. I hope the UEFA do the right thing and chuck you back in the Championship where you belong.
