[bustagut] Ya i've had many instances of that face myself PG.
Ok so... if you have a path, or vector shape path created, all you have to do to add points is hover your mouse over any part/segment of the path line. Your cursor turns into a pen with a + sign beside it. Then just click away. To subtract a point, hold the mouse over an existing point and click on it.
Oh ya.. and the missing ingredient here i'm guessing is... you forgot to select the PEN tool first (P key).
That help? [honesty]

The anchor point tool won't work!? why? Post #3 | | Guest | re: Anchor tool not working
The last time this worked for me, all I did was use the shape tool, made an oval and used the anchor point tool. It wouldn't work the last time I tried. Am I not drawing the shape in the proper mode or layer? Thanks,PG

It sounds to me lik eyou switched your draw mode on your shape tool from path or shape into "filled". This will NOT create a vector, but will instantly fill the shape with pixels (basically, auto-rasterize).
These little, inconspicuous looking buttons are at the top of the screen in the info bar when you have the shape tool selected. Far left, three little buttons off on their own. One creates work paths, one creates shape layers, and one creates pixels. If you are creating filled pixels, you won't be able to affect the shape with the vector tools after it's been created. Switch to one of the other modes before you draw the shape if you want to be able to use the vector tools to modify it after it's been drawn.
Hope that helps... that one still catches me off guard every now and then.
