Hernan Crespo has revealed why Inter won the Milan transfer derby to net his signature from Chelsea.
The Argentine joined the Nerazzurri this morning on a two-year deal despite the Rossoneri also being hot on his heels.
“They were more forceful in their efforts to sign me,” Crespo told a media conference at his official unveiling this evening.
“I want to say thank you to [owner Massimo] Moratti, [Coach Roberto] Mancini, [director Lele] Oriali and [director Marco] Branca. I’m happy that they all believe in me and I’ll pay them back.”
Crespo, who has already played for both clubs in his career, has returned to the Nerazzurri after leaving for Chelsea in a £16.8m deal three years ago.
“I left the Pinetina training base in tears back in August 2003, now I’m back here smiling,” he continued following his free move.
“I remember that it was hard for me to leave here because Inter were like a massive family for me and I didn’t think I would have another chance.
“However, that has now arrived and I want to take advantage of it.
“I’m feeling an incredible amount of joy. I know that I have a lot of responsibility on me, but the pressure doesn’t scare me. I have great hunger and I hope to do well, very well.
“I have re-found Inter, a club and a team in which I had an intense rapport and one which I have always respected.”
Crespo has admitted that he has yet to speak to Coach Mancio, but believes he will have little problem settling back into the club or the tactician’s plans.
“I haven’t spoken directly to the Coach, but I have known Roberto Mancini for years,” he said. “He was a great aid for me at Lazio and we have remained in touch since then.
“I am at the team’s and the Coach’s total disposal. I’ll play with my heart and give my all, this is the spirit which keeps me going on a daily basis.
“It is a great honour for me to be back here after my name was linked with some great European clubs in recent days.”
