It's the clouds that make a sunset more difficult

I will read the tut later...
This is my way of making clouds
Especially for Alistair, I chose a sunset effect.
the topl layer has the "Hard Lightl" blend mode.

tip 1: don't forget to edit>transform the clouds, and use levels and a tad of black/white paint with soft large brushes on the masks.

tip 2: try out the distort filters...

I like your technique, Erik and will try it out! Yes, I see a beautiful 'sunset' in your rendition... good stuff! [righton]

The "painting tute" that Gauss posted here is something entirely different. For anyone who is interested in learning to 'paint' in PS, the results are more than 'realistic' and one has complete control... Granted, I'm not at that stage yet, (painting in PS) but I'm hoarding these tutes for the day that I'm ready!

Meanwhile I did take a brief look at the tut too.
He does paint nice clouds, and it is really about painting. Which I always forget in ps. [saywhat]

Yet I think you can combine both techniques.

You don't have to stay in natural clouds though...:
