I have JPG2000 support. For free. In what else but the incredible IrfanView?

If Irfanview creates JPG2000 files, what kind of extension do they have Erik? It seems that Photoshop has an option called "JP2 compatible".
I just wonder if we cruising towards 10 different JPG2000 standards [confused]

Photoshop calls their format Extended JPEG 2000 with extension JPF.
Files that end with JP2 are called Standard JPEG 2000. I wonder what the difference is between the two [confused]

So do I...I have the strong impression that Adobe is trying to compensate for being late by launching their own version. Which does not have to be the worst, far from that.
My idea is that extended will be like the extended TIFF that only A's progs can use.
On the other hand: jpg is only worth mentionning for the web etc. I know, I know: they're trying to fool people with jaypegging images from digital camera's, but compression stays compression, even if it's good compression, and it will never be able to match uncompressed data.
Perhaps the future will prove me wrong, and, in fact, I hope it does. But I stick to my slides and old fashioned camera for the time being...

In fact, but I intend to write on that subject on my site: even our language is slowly digitalised, reduced in clearly discernible "pixels" that leave no room for the creation of an atmosphere...And he who controls language, controls thought...we're deeper into BigBrother that most people realise. Even the Internet is losing its freedom and anarchy...

PS9 will be out later this year. It will have a great part of its code rewritten, and will be especially for digital camera and video. Mac users will be forced to buy Jaguar or better (at full price! this is Adobe's revenge), but both platforms will enjoy better support of 16 bit (hahahahaaa) and text on paths, better PDF and some other details. My idea: the dinosaur is already fat enough. Better split it up in several parts as I don't use ImageReady (Fireworks) nor the browser (Irfanview), while others never use the CMYK print options...

Btw, this JPF also has a "lossless option" and in general it will save you about 30% on a TIFF file. Might not seem shocking, but with a lot of files it can really add up. Funny, even if it saves me 30%, I would still use TIFF. I rather prefer standards instead of all kind of "exotic" formats [confused]

What IS interesting about this plugin is the ability to read RAW files; I know for a fact that lots of digital photographers will be happy with that and one of the reasons why I posted this link.

In a way I'm a lot like you when it comes to new version of Photoshop. I rather prefer that they polish what they have, instead of adding stuff and creating a monster. I also never understood why Illustrator has to be such hulk of a program [confused] It's one of the reasons why I rather like to open my Xara X instead.

Btw, you do know that I still hope to convince you one day to buy a digital camera [bustagut]

I do know which digital camera I would like to have, but it is a tad beyond my financial means. (don't tell you which one, but it is a Pro camera and costs as much as a car for the camera body without lenses). I would also need the equivalent of the lenses I have now (24mm and 90mm at 2.0, 50mm at 1.8, 200mm at 3.5 and 300mm at 4.5). I would also need a dedicated flash with adaptable err...flash times, and last but not least a handy lightweight set of batteries that lasts for at least 360 pics (no compression of course) and storage of some 20GB with the same properties. I might survive a week with 20 gig, and a day or two with the batteries...
And all that for a very affordable price that does not exceed the price of what I have now.

I'm modest, you see: I only ask for quality.

Before she goes on writing, she should polish up her Latin. Carpe Diem simply means as much as "live from day to day and enjoy it". Don't see how it relates to the context

No, I'm not against digcams. But a/ I do have a very good camera now (Olympus OM4Ti) that survives in really difficult circumstances, and b/ if I do need something it's a faster PC. And evt a tft monitor because of eyestrain and changing chromosomes. 8[
