Thanks for all the info Lee [righton]

With all this information I have a better understanding of what you really want. As soon as I find something interesting, I'll let you know.

But the $600 that you're talking about for PS7, that's for the full version.
The update is about $140.

Personally I think that you shouldn't go for PS7; it's not such a leap forward. With until the end of the year when PS8 is released; that makes it more worth to upgrade from PS6 in my opinion.

I don't have PS6, Gaus. Just Elements 2 so upgrade pricing doesn't help. I WISH I had 6 as then I could use things like channels etc. I didn't know that PS8 was coming out this Fall. I can't afford 7 right now anyway so that having to wait until this Fall is a little easier to take now.

I guess I should make myself clearer, G. My fault. You're right, PS is Photoshop. As Adobe also makes Photoshop Elements I use PS instead of PSE as it's less to type.

Of course, every dollar you spend is lost for PS7, but if you can do your job with it, you may well gain more than you invest, so:

HotTEXT http://www.vertigo3d.com/hottext/index.html $99

can put text on a path, which even PS7 cannot.
There is a demo that is fully functional, except for the text that cannot be changed.

quote from their site:

Type in up to 80 characters

Rotate, zoom, and spin the virtual 3D camera to get just the right view of your 3D text

Add and move up to 5 lights to create the perfect atmosphere

Flow your text along 8 different predefined paths, or create your own

customized 3D path for never-seen-before effects

Add your own textures to add creative flair to the text

Bevel your text with one of 27 different bevels

Kern your text

Generate crisp, sharp images using the LightWorks award-winning renderer

Flow your text along one of 7 preselected paths, or make a path of your own! 27 bevels to give your text some style!

HotTEXT also gives you the power to flow flat text along a path within Photoshop - just set your text depth to zero!

HotTEXT allows you to control the transparency of your text to create a glass type of effect.

Go crazy with the text sizing tools to create one of a kind text effects for that special look!

Enter new realms with HotTEXT by challenging transparency and sizing tools!

Use the 3D camera to go in for close ups of your text and turn it into something out of this world!

Take HotTEXT into the abstract world by using the text sizing tools to create amazing textures!

Gaussian: I don't know yet whether I will ever upgrade to PS8. As a mod, I should, but personally (and that's where my money intrests lie), I can do everything I need and even more with the apps I have.
For text I often prefer Xara X.

Lee:

http://www.autofx.com/dreamsuite/eff...quidmetal.html

$50 for the single effect,$199 for the complete Dreamsuite1. . You can download a demo.

AutoFX does use their own font, which was quite a nuisance when I purchased this plugin (I have Liquid Metal and Metal Mixer), but apart from this (I had problems installing the serial because I did not have the correct font), the quality of the plugins and the options is beyond belief.
The best chrome I know (and loads of settings for other metals, glass, plastic,...)
But download the demo and try in PSE before you buy. And if you ever have PS7, or8, they will be still as useful as before.

I don't know Elements: do you have layers? a channels palette? Selection tools?
What can you do with type? You have type on a separate layer? etc etc...

This was done with Liquid Metal and inevitably some photoshopping.

Photoshop Elements has lots in common with Photoshop but is missing some advanced features; quick mask, LAB, CMYK, multichannel, duotone, channels, advanced layer styles, paths, curves, layered TIFF files, etc.

But even without these features it still has a lot to offer for a large group of users.

Default Amusing interface of new Lens Pro plug-in.

Erik,

Thanks for the links, young man. I really like what the Autofx lets you do with type. I'll check into that one.
